Ubuntu box setup, recording starts tomorrow
by Kyle on Oct.01, 2008, under General
Just a quick blog post to let everyone know whats currently going on.
I’ve managed to revive an old P4 PC with half decent specs (1.3 GB of DDR Ram, 6600GT AGP.. etc) and I’ve got it hooked up to my main monitor via the unused VGA port (my primary PC is connected via HDMI). I can now switch between both my main gaming/editing rig and linux box, huzzah!
As I don’t really have a worthy headset to record voice; I’m going to be using either the Sony EyeToy integrated audio or my DV cam’s built-in audio. Both of which are pretty bad, but no where near as awful as the headsets I have lying around (we’re talking cheap and nasty ones, Poundland/Lidl). Seeing as my main machine is running 64 bit Vista; there are no drivers (to my knowledge) for the EyeToy. A few google searches later I found drivers for Ubuntu along with a nice little tutorial; which worked great. I am still tinkering around (i’m a complete n00b to linux) with things but hopefully if all goes well I can start recording audio tomorrow along with capturing more footage. I’ve got pretty much a free weekend to carry on with everything project related; so I’ll keep you guys posted.
Wish me luck!
-Kyle
